Before you upload

Hear it before YouTube does.

YouTube builds its stereo and 5.1 versions from the IAMF you upload, and serves the immersive mix itself to compatible devices as Eclipsa Audio. So the file you upload is the master — it is worth hearing before it goes.

Orbit Lite plays that file, not a reference bounce: switch its mix presentations, check it on headphones and on the rig, and watch it against the picture.

Questions

IAMF and Eclipsa Audio, answered

What is IAMF?

IAMF (Immersive Audio Model and Formats) is an open immersive-audio format from the Alliance for Open Media. One file can carry channel-based beds, objects and ambisonics, plus several mix presentations of the same programme.

What is Eclipsa Audio?

Eclipsa Audio™ is the name Google and Samsung give IAMF audio. It is what YouTube serves to compatible devices when you upload an immersive IAMF mix.

How do I play an IAMF file on a Mac?

Open it in Orbit Lite. It plays .iamf files and .mp4 files carrying IAMF, through your speakers, binaurally on headphones, folded to stereo or through Apple Spatial Audio. Orbit Lite runs on Apple Silicon Macs with macOS 14 or later.

Can I hear an Eclipsa Audio mix before it goes to YouTube?

Yes. Open the exact .iamf or .mp4 you are about to upload in Orbit Lite and listen to it on your rig or on headphones, with the picture in sync. What you hear is the file itself, not a reference mix.

Which IAMF profiles does Orbit Lite support?

Simple, Base and Base-Enhanced, objects included, up to the latest draft of the specification.

Can I listen on headphones?

Yes. Orbit Lite renders binaural on the Orbit Studio HRTF, and on a Mac it can also play through Apple Spatial Audio, so you can compare the two.

Does it play IAMF on iPhone, iPad or Windows?

Orbit Lite for iPhone and iPad arrives later in October 2026, on the same licence as the Mac. The Windows date is still to be confirmed.

How much is it?

Orbit Lite is £35, a one-time purchase covering Mac, iPhone and iPad, with a free 14-day trial and no card needed.

How do I make an IAMF file?

Orbit Pro exports Eclipsa Audio™ (IAMF) from an ADM BWF master, with presets for YouTube. IAMF export in Orbit Pro →
